Gandhi Or Marx
Communism and Gandhian principles have few ideological differences, although with a common goal of poor welfare . In fact they represent two completely different ideas.
Karl Marx, Father of Marxist communism, says "We get healthy individuals only with healthy society."
Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation, says "Healthy society is formed only with healthy individuals."
Gandhi always used to preach that, "You should be the change you wanted to see in others." So Gandhiji believed that to change the society one has to transform himself.
Marx believed in the other extreme. His ideology was that if the society is good then the people automatically tend to be good.
With due respect to Marx and communism, I feel that Gandhian principles serve better than Marxist Communism. Communists always tend to demand a change in society. They always demand the society or the govt. to improve the living standards. But Gandhian principles asks you to transform yourself. Gandhi always believed that before we demand something from society we have to consider how much we are contributing to the society.
Gandhian principles never discouraged putting up agitations for welfare of poor. But Mahatma preached that before asking society to change, you change yourself. After you are completely transformed then you have a right to demand the society. Gandhi always believed in being examples to the society. Gandhi followers modeled their lives and stood as live examples for the society.
With Gandhian principles, the results may be slow. But this will bring a change for sure. After all, society is collection of individuals. How the hell does society change without any change in each individual? You first transform yourself, model your life in Gandhian way and stand as an example to your family and friends. Slowly they will tune themselves. The chain follows.
In this society who are that good to welcome a change in you and follow it? Yeah, you are right. Now we are in a country where ethics are completely wiped off. But does mere force change anyone? If you stage agitation for a change in society, does that change anyone? None will care you because even you are sporting dirty cloth.
But if you change yourself, people will at least listen to you. Slowly they will understand you. That change will be permanent because they understood the values of life.
The change may occur slowly, but surely, with Gandhian principles. For those who has no belief, once recollect how India got freedom without a war. That's an impossible made possible. Why not this?
